Size: 1/8”           Color: Black and White

Description: The White-footed Ant is a tiny black ant with yellowish-white on the bottom half of its legs. The White-footed ant was first discovered in Florida in 1986 and is still being studied. It was introduced to the United States in imported plants and is expected to spread with the transport of infested landscaping supplies and plants.

Signs Of Activity: Sightings of the white feet are usual sign of their presence..

Size: up to 5/8”            Color: Black

Description: Carpenter ants reside both outdoors and indoors in moist, decaying or hollow wood. They cut galleries into the wood grain to form their nests and provide passageways for movement from section to section of the nest. This activity produces wood shavings mixed with parts of dead ants which provides clues to nesting locations. Carpenter ants do not eat wood, but they will feed on a variety of food people eat

Signs Of Activity: An additional sign of carpenter ant activity is the debris they produce from tunneling in the wood. Rough wood shavings mixed with parts of dead ants from the colony indicate carpenter ant nesting activity.

Size: 1/8”-3/8”            Color: Reddish Brown

Description: Fire Ants are more aggressive than most native ant species. Not only do they bite but inject venom into their victim with a painful stinger on their abdomen. They are a pest, not only because of the physical pain they can inflict, but also because their mound-building activity can damage plant roots leading to lawn death. It is not uncommon for several fire ant mounds to appear suddenly in a suburban yard, seemingly overnight.

Signs Of Activity: Signs can be their sandy earthen mounds, which are usually more visible after recent rainfall, or the complaints of customers who are being stung by ants.

Size: 1/8”-1/4”            Color: Brown, Black, Red

Description: Acrobat ants (Crematogaster spp.) get their name from their habit of acrobatically raising their abdomen above their head, especially when they are disturbed. When viewed from above, the abdomen is heart-shaped.  Outdoors, acrobat ants nest near moisture such as under stones, in stumps, in rotting logs and under woodpiles. When they invade homes, acrobat ants often nest in damp areas such as in foam sheathing behind siding, and they even have been found nesting in roofing near a leaking skylight.

Signs Of Activity:The most visible sign of acrobat ants are the trails of ants as they forage for resources.

Description: Argentine ants are readily adaptable and can nest in a great variety of places. Colonies are massive and may contain hundreds of queens. Nests are usually located in moist soil, next to or under buildings, along sidewalks or beneath boards. These ants travel in trails.

Signs Of Activity: The foraging trails of Argentine ants are their most visible sign. The trails can be observed traveling up buildings, trees and into homes.

Silverfish

Size: 1/8”-1/16”            Color: Brown

Description: Bigheaded ants get their name from the appearance of the major workers. The major workers serve as soldiers and defend the colony. The major workers also use their large jaws to crack seeds and other food for the other members of the colony. They often enter homes through cracks in the foundation.

Signs Of Activity: As with most ants, the most common sign is the worker ants. They often are observed when foraging for food, which can bring them indoors into areas such as kitchens or even bathrooms.
